The Monmouthshire Reel Club has always been known for its private house parties, which were often preceded by dinner parties in other members' homes.
In the last two seasons, we have brought everyone together at the beginning of the evening. Instead of dinner parties before gathering to dance at 9.30pm, we now meet at 7.30pm and have a break during the evening to enjoy finger food and drinks brought by everyone, finishing the evening at 11pm. At the discretion of the host/hostess you are welcome to bring guests, provided they can dance, to introduce them to the Club.
We have several paid events each season, which are open to non-members: an End of Year Dance, including dinner and recorded music, an Annual Ball in the spring, including dinner and a live band, and village hall dances.
Dress is Black Tie for private house dances and White or Black Tie, Highland Evening Dress or Uniform for the Annual Ball and End of Year Dance.
Members pay an annual subscription - £20 per person for new members / £10 for repeat subscriptions. This gives members access to private house dances.
If you have no previous experience of dancing Scottish reels, you are encouraged to attend one of the village hall dances and any other practices arranged before specific events.
